Live from New Delhi as protests over new citizenship law set to spread after Friday prayers

Ruptly is live from New Delhi following Friday prayers on Friday, December 20, as a new wave of protests is set to begin over a new Indian citizenship law.

Thousands are expected to attend a protest march from Jama Masjid mosque to Jantar Mantar despite a police ban. Large demonstrations have taken place across India since last Thursday, December 12, over a new citizenship bill granting Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The protests broke out in major cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and the capital. According to reports, dozens were injured and several were killed during clashes.
