Mountain West runners competed in the annual Conference cross country championships on Friday morning in Las Vegas. New Mexico won its 13th consecutive women’s title, scoring 29 points, while Air Force claimed the men’s title with 29 points.

Five Lobos finished in the top 10 of the 2021 Spring Mountain West Cross Country Championship as New Mexico extended its streak of winning the Conference title. UNM’s 13 MW women’s championship titles are the most league championship crowns in any sport in MW history. Senior Adva Cohen was the first Lobo to cross the finish line with a time of 20:02.3, earning a second-place finish. Sophomore Amelia Mazza-Downie rounded out New Mexico’s top five finishers after placing fourth with a time of 20:11.7.

Senior Mahala Norris crossed the finish line first in the women’s 6k race with a time of 19:57.7, becoming the first Air Force women’s runner to claim an MW cross country individual title. A little over a year ago, Norris finished in the top five at the 2019 MW Championship. Norris’ time is the fourth-fastest in Mountain West Championship history.
