Pediatric Chronic Pain - Top 10 Priorities
Description
Chronic pain affects 1 in 5 children and teens. This means that 1-3 million Canadian youth often deal with pain lasting months to years. This pain can get in the way of being active, sleeping, going to school, and getting along with friends and family. #PartneringForPain is a national CIHR-funded patient engagement project started at SickKids in early 2017 by Dr. Katie Birnie and Dr. Jennifer Stinson in collaboration with other pediatric chronic pain clinics across Canada (Calgary, Saskatoon, Halifax, and Ottawa). The Partnering For Pain priority setting partnership engaged hundreds of Canadians to identify the top 10 priorities for pediatric chronic pain from the perspective of patients, families, and healthcare providers. The final identified priorities are a call to action to ensure that future research in pediatric chronic pain focuses on what is most important to people who will use it in their everyday lives.
