The Government of Peru started to send its soldiers to the northern border with Ecuador on Saturday, in the midst of the country's state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Footage shows military vehicles, including tanks and trucks with soldiers, being moved to Tumbes, at the border with Ecuador.
The aim of the deployment is to control the passage of vehicles and people across the border, after 22 clandestine crossings reportedly used by Ecuadorian and Venezuelan migrants were discovered.
Peru's President Martin Vizcarra announced the state of national emergency with compulsory social isolation on 15 March, which took effect the following day. To date, Peru has confirmed 2,281 cases of coronavirus and 83 deaths, according to the Health Ministry.
