Description

This Aramid fiber case feels awesome. The majority of AirPod cases are made from silicone which may get annoying to use with pockets but not the Pitaka Air Pal Mini. The finish on this case is very pleasant.

Now is it $69 dollar pleasant? That’s what you’re going to find out.

And if you’re wondering, this case has become #5 on my Top 10 list. It knocks off the Fintie leather case off the list.

At MREH, Monty and I base all our reviews as much as we can on real life. Real Usage. Real Reviews. Monty’s basically the STIG of using AirPod Pro cases.

The Pitaka Air Pal Mini is made from Aramid Fiber. Specifically 600D Aramid fiber which apparently is lighter and softer than 1500D Aramid fiber. Now I’m assuming that you’d feel a difference between the actual sheets of fiber BUT it’s hard to feel the difference after Pitaka coats it with their scratch resistant coating.

Which by the way scratches at 3 so keys and coins may scratch this case over time.

I will say that this is a unique looking case from a design, manufacturing standpoint. For some odd reason, I’m really drawn to the non-uniformity of this case.

The Aramid sheet basically needs to be draped over the PC shell (Pitaka uses a process called Vacuum forming). With a product as small and round as the AirPod’s I’d expect the seams between the parts to be noticeable but they are not.

The Air Pal Mini comes in one color for now, black or gunmetal or whatever variation they call this grey/black case. I’m hoping that they release other versions with the colored Aramid fiber because those cases would be absolutely stellar looking.

My biggest gripe with the overall design of this product is the logo on the front. I think it should be on the back as it takes away from the overall look of the product.

This is a two piece case with the cap having a washable sticky at the top. There is a series of rubber stops on the inside of the case that prevents the bottom from moving during day-to-day use.

Pitaka has included a carabiner clip for those who feel like wearing their AirPod’s on the outside of their bags. I’m not a big fan of these clips AND you ~might be able to get away from using it with the Air Pal Mini as the attachment point is very small.

I had no issues with clicking the cap of the AirPod’s top. The hinge area on the AirPod’s isn’t covered BUT will still result in a mild pinching sensation if you’re not careful. That’s right, this case will literally bite back if you open it. BUT it’s not as bad as the Mous or the InCase products.

There is a cutout for the Status light BUT nothing for the sync button on the back so you’ll have to remove the case in order to sync which will be annoying IF you have to do it more than once.

Now overall, I like the product. It ranks well and the finish is different. Is it worth 70 dollars? That’s a bit steep from my perspective but given what’s on the case AND how it’s produced, it doesn’t seem like a big ripoff. Honestly, I personally would have a hard time getting this product if I wasn’t a reviewer. AND if I did want it, I’d try to find a discount code for it. Which I have. Check the pinned comment for it or the description section for it.

How protection? Well, like ever other two piece case, the AirPod’s exterior is going to be well protected. The bud’s? Not so much.
