Urban Armor Gear Hard Case Apple AirPods Review (I opened it 600 times before doing this review)
Description
So this looks like a tank of a case. It actually looks pretty cool and after using this case for a few days, I can say with a 100% certainty, the Hardshell case is exponentially better than UAG’s Silicone case.
Seriously...how is the UAG Silicone case actually a product?
There’s only one drawback with this product. And it’s not the size. Or bulk. Or the hinge.
The Urban Armor Gear Hard Shell Case is one of the better AirPod cases I've used. Get yours using these links:

At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. With the UAG Hardshell case, I had to take the lead on the review because Monty doesn’t have opposable thumbs which makes it hard to push the button that releases the cap.
The one thing I wanted to figure out with this product is the quality of the hinge. So I popped the hinge a 350 times, then I dropped it 10 times and then popped the hinge again for a 150 times. My guess is that simulates about 10 months of usage with one opening in the morning, one opening at night each day and a drop every month..
The one word I would use to describe this product is “beastly”. It looks like it can take a beating. That might be a turnoff for some as it changes the look of the AirPod case drastically.
The UAG Hardshell case comes in one color which is black with orange accents. So I hope you like black.
This one of the few mixed-material cases I’ve come across for the Apple Airpods. The AirPod case sits in the a silicone sleeve that fits into a polycarbonate shell. Oddly enough, the cap doesn’t have any silicone in it, just a foamy at the top. The hinge and release mechanism as a couple of springs in it which gives it that pop.
The case has a small cutout for the status light BUT out of all the AirPod and AirPod Pro cases I’ve used over the last while, this is the only case that doesn’t allow you to access the sync button on the back of the case. At least it’s fairly easy to slide the AirPod’s out of the case.
As a side note, I’m showing you the two pieces apart BUT they don’t come apart easily and are just as hard to put back together.
There is a loop for a carabiner for those who like to wear stuff on their pants?
The case keeps the the click of the AirPods cap and I didn’t have any issues accessing the buds from the case.
I will note that the PC shell feels quite slick and handles even worse than a naked AirPod case. At least when squirts out of your hand, you won’t feel too bad given the protective nature of the case.
When it comes to protection, the UAG hard case is rated to Mil-STD 810g BUT UAG doesn’t explicitly state how high you can actually drop it. At a minimum, the drop height is going to be 4 ft BUT it will probably handle 5ft, maybe 6ft.
Now out of the 10 drops I did, the cap of the UAG hardshell case did pop off about 60% of the time. Which isn’t great BUT out of my small sample size, the case absorbed the brunt of the impact which meant that my AirPod’s didn’t come flying out which is something usually happens with the average AirPod Case.
