The government of Pakistan has signed Rs 442 billion contract with a Chinese government company and the commercial arm of its military for the construction of the Diamer Bhasha Dam on the Indus River. India has been opposing this dam being built on the Indus River in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) for many years. As of now, India has once again objected to this.
In July 2018, the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar ordered to set up a public fund for this dam project. According to a media report, after a report on water scarcity in Pakistan by 2025, he ordered the formation of a public fund. The Chief Justice himself donated 10 lakh Pakistani rupees for the Diamer Bhasha Dam project.
