Description

Japanese Flan Pudding ⬇️ FULL RECIPE BELOW ⬇️ Japan is known for some of the most iconic savory dishes in the world. But their dessert game is also on point, with flan being one of the most popular treats. While we might be more familiar with the Mexican version of this dish, in some parts, flan is known as "caramel pudding" or "purin." What most people don't know is that flan is actually super easy to make and only requires a few ingredients. In Japan, everyone loves flan, no matter how old or young. You can get flan in pretty much every grocery store all over the country. But because it's so easy to make at home, we'll show you how to make your own showstopper flan in a glass with a delish topping!

You'll Need (for 4):

For the caramelized sugar:

- ½ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup water

For the pudding:

- 3¾ cups milk
- 10 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp honey

For the topping:

- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp flour
- 2 tsp honey

Here's How:

1. Preheat the oven to 300°F. Combine the sugar and water in a pot and boil down until it turns amber and reaches the consistency of caramel. While it's still warm, pour the caramelized sugar into heat-resistant glasses in equal parts and let it cool down.

2. Add the eggs, milk, sugar, and honey to a bowl and whisk together. Bring a pot of water big enough for the bowl to stand on to boil and place the bowl on top of the simmering water. Continue to whisk the mixture until it thickens and has a smooth consistency. To remove any lumps or air bubbles, strain the pudding through a sieve. Pour the pudding into the glasses, making sure to fill it up only about 3/4 of the way.

3. To make the topping, combine one egg, sugar, and honey, and whisk until foam begins to form. Carefully fold in the flour. Pour the mixture into all 4 glasses as a third layer.

4. Place the glasses in a baking pan, add water, slide the pan in the oven, and cook for 40 minutes. Then refrigerate for about 4 hours.

Food is the one thing that unites us all, but it can also help us learn about other cultures. In any case, this recipe for Japanese flan is super easy to make and a delicious treat to boot. Truly the perfect way to end a beautiful meal!
