4. Using too much product -- less is more. If you need a lot of product, chances are you're using the wrong product.

5. Not emulsifying the hairstyling product before applying -- emulsifying activates the product. Also use a pre-styler to add hold, volume, and texture.

6. Unrealistic expectations for a hairstyle -- stop trying to do something with your hair that it won't do. Google your hair type, texture, length, color, density to find realistic options.
