In this video, we're going over one of the most influential spiritual awakening books of the past couple
centuries going over the power of now Eckhart Tolle and I'm giving you the best 10 ideas.
Hey, welcome back to the book review series. My name is Clark. If you're new here I help people refuse
to settle and in this series we take self development books, which you know can be a couple hundred
pages or they're like 10 hours on audible and we condense them down into the 10 biggest ideas for you.
Really actionable stuff that you can walk away with. So if you want to read the book, that's great. I have
it linked up in the description. Actually read this one and got it on audible as well. Or if you just want to
watch this video, enjoy it. Bust out a notepad and a your journal. Get some big ideas from this that you
can dive into after. All right, echo toy, the power of now I first heard about this book and I'll show you
some cool stuff in a bit like that little chart up there.
I can't wait to walk that over with you. But I first heard of this book on Oprah, super soul soul Sunday.
Guys, remember that? I don't know if you guys have ever listened to that. It was like a podcast back
2014, 13 or 12 before podcasts are really big. Right. And I heard are totally on there and at the time, if
you know my story, I was a janitor in college. Okay. I would scrub toilets and the female floor and all that
stuff in the summertime. And so I just had to, you know, not go mad cause I was scrubbing spots and I
go into the next dorm room like okay great. That dorm room is clean and the next one was just the exact
same room but dirty and you know, everything was cleared out. So it felt like you were just in this big,
um, inception, no man's land, purgatory of just nothingness.
So I was scrubbing all these spots. And I'm telling you that because this was one of the books I listened
to during that time and I almost fell into this deep meditative state realizing what's in this book, the
power of now, of where those spots kind of, I don't know, in a as corny as it sounds, uh, they taught me
how to be in the present moment, something kind of wax on, wax off, like mr Miyagi, right? And so this
book has the power to really show you what the present moment is. So if you're someone who's an
anxious person or you identify as high stress, or you identify as, you know, depressed, or you feel like
you're so worried about the future of if it's all going to work out, maybe you have your own business.
What's this all for? This book really reframes that big idea.
Number 10, he describes his story of sitting on a park bench and he was super depressed. He filmed this
deep level of depression where he wanted to kill himself. And he, he had the thought, I cannot live with
myself, like leery, just wanted to die. But then he thought about that and he was like, wait, Whoa,
Whoa, hold up. Wait a minute. I cannot live with myself. Are there two of me or one of me? Because if
there's the eye who can't live with myself, there must be two of me. And this is where he realized the
ego and this pain body that creates a lot of our suffering versus your true identity, which is unchanging
at the soul level, which is you at your core. You are not your job. You are not your identity. You are not
your beliefs. You are not your past.
You're not the things you have. There's some unchanging part of you that once you tap into this and live
from this core of us that we have deep down inside, that's where life really happens for you and not just
to you. Okay? So it's easy to go through life and things happen and we just react, react, react, you know,
Oh, a bill comes, okay, we'll pay that. Oh, we got fired from a job. Okay, we'll find another one. Oh, we
have to go pick up groceries. Okay, well do this, do this, do this. So we're reacting, but it's really hard to
go through life responding. Okay? There's a huge difference right there. Responding is being conscious
and choosing, this is what I want, this is the path I want to go down.
