New figures have revealed exactly how sought-after 10p, 50p and £2 coins of the year available in the UK are. The Change Checker Scarcity Index has outlined which coins currently in circulation are the rarest - and the ones that could be worth more than face value. Throughout 2019, a number of new coins were introduced, into circulation - including a tribute piece to the late scientist Stephen Hawking and a new Peter Rabbit 50p. However the Kew Gardens design 50 pence piece is still the most valuable among coin collectors. A total of just 210,000 Kew Gardens 50p coins were minted in 2009, making it one of the most sought-after coins in circulation. The coin, designed by Christopher Le Brun, depicts the famous west London garden pagoda encircled in vine leaves with the dates "1759" and "2009" with the word Kew at the base. Over on eBay, sellers have been listing uncirculated copies of the coin for sale - with a price in the region of £2,500. However it the coin is unlikely to make this much at auction. A more realistic £186 was made on a circulated condition Kew Gardens 50p last month via the online auction site. The 2018 Peter Rabbit and Flopsy Bunny 50p pieces were also released with low mintage figures - just 1,400,000 of each. As a result, these coins are now the second and third most sought-after 50ps in circulation, excluding the Olympic 50p coins. These pieces are worth around £4 each - eight times the face value of the coin. The 2012 collection of Olympic coins, minted to commemorate the games held in London, are also high on the list of sought-after coins. The coins, made up of 29 different 50p designs each one representing a different Olympic sport all take up the top spots on the scarcity index. The Football version of the coin, which had a mintage of just 1,125,500 is more valuable than the others and you can expect to sell it for around £16 online. And it's not just 50p pieces that could be valuable - another one worth keeping an eye out for is the 2002 Northern Ireland version of the Commonwealth Games coin. It's rarer than its England, Wales and Scotland counterparts, which were all released to celebrate the games held in Manchester. Just 485,500 such coins entered circulation, topping the list of the most sought-after £2 coins. These coins can fetch upwards of £40 at auction, with one recently selling for £44 on eBay. The 2018 range of alphabet 10p pieces are also fetching a pretty penny. The collection, made up of 26 new designs celebrating the best of British, are popular with collectors and many earning more than 3
