10 AMAZING Whale Spotting Moments

It is kind of a big deal to come face to face with some of the largest creatures alive. But since most of the largest creatures on Earth live underwater, it seems like the privilege of meeting them is only reserved for those who practice scuba diving. However, these beasts could come up to the surface at any time. And sometimes, some of us are lucky enough to spot them. In today’s video we’ll be looking at “10 Amazing Whale Spotting Moments.” We’ll look through the eyes of some lucky people who got the awesome opportunity to be very close to the whales without having to go underwater. Some of these might be a bit scary - especially those that spotted the majestic blue whale, which you might remember for being the largest animal in the world. As always, the most amazing video is at the top of the list, but make sure you watch them all. I’m sure this video will make you want to go see whales pretty soon - unless, of course, you already did.

The Humpback Whale and the Kayakers


California is well known for its whale watching spots. You can visit different places along the coast where you’ll be able to see whales at different times throughout the year. However, the people in this video had a very unexpected encounter. In the blink of an eye, a massive humpback whale jumped out of the water and landed on a couple of kayakers. At first, it seemed like the couple had disappeared, but luckily, they were able to come back to surface to tell their story. I’m honestly quite surprised. Humpback whales can be as heavy as 30,000 kilograms and the one on this video looks like it’s a very big one. Good thing that people inside the cruise ship had their phones out. Otherwise, I wouldn’t believe the people in the kayak survived.

Playful Killer Whales


I know the name “Killer Whale” is not really inviting. If anything, it makes us want to stay away from them. However, not everything about the killer whales has to do with violence. In fact, they can be very playful, and here’s a video that proves it. A woman was swimming off the coast of Hahei Beach in New Zealand when a group of three Killer Whales approached her. At first, it looks as if the whales are going to attack. But they actually just stayed near her, swimming with her and maybe kind of curious of what she was up to. They swim away for a moment, and then they come back for a bit before they finally leave. It’s worth noting that the swimmer doesn’t seem scared at all. It’s as if she’s familiar with this kind of behavior. Killer whales have a bad reputation due to some of the awful things that have happened while in captivity. But things are a bit different out in the big ocean. There are no reported cases of whales attacking humans in the wild. They’re known to prey on terrestrial animals such as moose that swim between islands ...but never a fatal attack on a human!

And here’s another playful orca. But this one got a bit too playful and it actually put someone’s life at risk. But don’t worry...everyone got out of it alive. Just like in a previous video, in this one there are also some kayakers who were just enjoying their day out in the water until suddenly...an orca whale jumped out of the water and fell on one of them. The guy got immediately knocked out of his kayak, but he was able to come back to surface. It seems like everyone watching was quite entertained by the sight. I’m glad they had fun, but I’m sure it wouldn’t have been that funny if the person hadn’t come out to tell his amazing story of a close encounter with a massive whale.

Orcas Approaching


The people in this video were also on a kayak. And they had the experience of a lifetime when they spotted a group of orcas swimming towards them. At first, you can only see their fins popping out of the water, which creates a bit of suspense and it’s something that would probably make a lot of us feel scared - especially if you’ve watched Jaws or other movies in which threatening ocean creatures make their first appearance by just showing their fin. However, like I said, orcas have no interest in harming us. They are playful though - and we already saw how their playfulness can turn into a scary moment, just like that guy in the previous video. However, these whales just swim right next to the kayak. As they get closer, you can see them breathe and swim with so much freedom. I would love to see something like this one day!
