A normal BMI is 18.5 to 24.9.The number of obese people in the world is approximately 2.1 billion, which makes up about 30% of the total population. Over 3 million people each year die from obesity. The worldwide obesity rate has tripled since 1975.Research shows that obesity increases an individual's risk of developing many diseases including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and several types of cancer. While obesity rates have historically been relatively low in Africa, they are steadily rising throughout the continent. Higher rates of obesity in Africa are attributed to increased urbanization, sedentary lifestyles, and fat-rich diets. The Whole Health Organization carried out a research to determine which countries in Africa are the most obese. The most obese countries were considered depending on the percentage of the total population that is obese. The higher the percentage, the more obese is the country’s population.

10. Zimbabwe - 15.5%of the Population are obese
Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo Rivers, bordered by South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. The capital and largest city is Harareand Zimbabwe has 16 official languages, with English, Shona, and Ndebele the most common. Zimbabwe is a country with a population of approximately 16 million with 15.5% of this population being obese. From young children to adults in their 70s, ever more people in Zimbabwe are obese. This is a consequence of the changing lifestyle, especially in urban areas and among the emerging middle class.The Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey shows that Overweight in this Southern African nation is most common among women with more than a secondary education accounting for 57 % and those belonging to the wealthiest households 50 %. People get less physical exercise and consume more pre-processed food putting their health at risk of illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes and other illnesses are related to obesity. Long-term consequences may include stroke, heart attack and kidney failure.
9. Eswatini - 16.5% Of the Population are Obese
Eswatini officially the Kingdom of Eswatini and also known as Swaziland is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, and south. At no more than 200km north to south and 130km east to west, Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa.Eswatini is a developing country with a small economy and a GDP per capita of $4,145.97, it is classified as a country with a lower-middle income. Despite this low income, it has not stopped some of the country’s citizens from eating excessively ignoring their health. In recent studies, female obesity prevalence for Eswatini is about 26.2 %. Female obesity prevalence of Eswatini increased from in 1997 from 16.2 % and has been growing at an average annual rate of 2.56%. With such a high rate, Eswatini is currently the 9th most obese country in Africa.
8.Lesotho - 16.6% Of the Population are obese
Officially the Kingdom of Lesotho, Lesotho is an enclaved country within the border of South Africa. Along with the Vatican City and San Marino, it is one of only three independent states completely surrounded by the territory of another country, and the only one outside of the Italian peninsula. Lesotho is just over 30,000 km2 in size and has a population of around 2 million of which 16.6% are obese.
