TOP 10 ALL-TIME: NCAA Division I Men's Soccer

Since 1959, NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer has had nearly 5,500 goals. Multiple eras in the sport contributed to a top 50 all-time list. However, only 10 teams get to display their goal(s). Who comes out on top? This video showcases the top 10 NCAA Division I men's soccer programs of all-time based on their postseason performances. Read more about the algorithm below! Enjoy!

PURPOSE: Under fair use, all videos and pictures found online were extracted to highlight the top 10 all-time men's soccer programs. This is to educate the audience about these programs and how statistics can be utilized to compile such a ranking. Data was compiled based on all head-to-head matches in every year of the postseason only. The algorithm is computed through an incremental rating system with appropriate adjustments. After the algorithm, data was transformed to meet the methodology. The methodology for the algorithm is as follows in order of importance:

• Quality and number of wins
• Tournament runs achieved
• Outplacements of ranked teams in the years prior
• Number of appearances
• Consistency

Unlike previous videos, the algorithm is still cumulative but it favors performances that are more recent. Along with a Bayesian approach (the whole history is considered at the beginning) instead of being completely incremental, the methodology has slightly been changed.

The scores bases their performance in comparison to No. 1 of all-time. The algorithm will remain private in anticipation of the many years to come for this sport.
