There’s no doubt that when it comes to providing jobs, the Fortune 500 is a vital cog in the nation’s economic engine. All together, companies on the list employed nearly 27 million people last year, which represents about 17% of the nation’s overall workforce—a figure that’s been relatively constant for the last few years.

The rankings below are the ten private-sector and semiprivate companies providing the most jobs worldwide, according to a list published in 2019 by Fortune magazine. The Tata Group of companies, which collectively employ over 720,000 people, is not listed by Fortune as a single enterprise; the companies are listed individually. Of the group, Tata Motors employs the most people, with 81,090 employees as of 2019.
