Encouraging people is great, and it has it’s place, but don’t fool yourself into thinking you are coaching people.

Not to mention, groups cues are generally ineffective.

Cues need to not only be specific to the fault but specific to the person.

ESPECIALLY when there is music pumping and barbells being dropped, trying to out-yell that doesn’t work very well 99% of the time.

The best way to deliver a verbal cue is to be within hearing distance of the athlete who is demonstrating a fault, use their name and keep the cue short and actionable.

For example; Hey, Kate - punch your arms up more!
.
Then, stay with them so that when they improve you can celebrate their success.

That’s a HUGE part of developing a relationship with your athletes.

Plus, if they don’t improve (which happens more often than not), you are there waiting to try a new tactic or cue to help them.

Don’t just be the cheerleader on the sidelines. Get in there and coach.
