Hello Displorers, welcome to another informative video presented to you by Displore. In this video, we shall be presenting the top 10 fastest growing cities in Africa. Africa is a continent of 54 sovereign countries and thousands of cities. Each city in Africa is unique and some grow proportionately to the rate of growth in the country of its origin. Though there are thousands of cities in Africa, some of these cities grow faster than other due to several reasons such as high rate of immigration, fertility rate, high birthrate and high life expectancy rate and infrastructural develpment. Of the 30 fastest growing cities in the world, 21 are in Africa indicating the emergence and growth of these cities to becoming a force to recon with world-wide.The United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs projects stated that the world’s 10 fastest growing cities, between 2018 and 2035, will all be in Africa. Africa is home not only to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies but also the majority of the world fastest growing cities. Keep in mind that the average annual population growth rate for the average city is 1.84%, whereas most African cities are growing at rates between four and eight percent.

It is estimated that Africa’s population of roughly 1.3 billion will double by 2050 with more than 80% of that growth will occur in cities. So,in no particular order, here are the top 10 fastest growing cities in Africa.
10. Douala, Cameroon.
Douala is a city found in Cameroon. It is Home to Central Africa's largest port and its major international airport, Douala International Airport , it is the commercial and economic capital of Cameroon and the entire CEMAC region comprising Gabon, Congo, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic and Cameroon. Consequently, it handles most of the country's major exports, such as oil, cocoa and coffee, timber, metals and fruits. The city and its surrounding area have an estimated population of 3.7 million people. Douala is among the top ten fastest growing cities in Africa because of high birth rates, immigration, high life expectancy rate and better medical care than in previous years. The population of the city has also been growing fast in recent years due to the movement of citizens of the country from other parts of the country particular from the North west and South west region od Cameroon to settle in Douala because of the current crisis ongoing in the country.

It even ranks in the top 50 largest urban areas in the world.Johannesburg, informally known as Jozi or Joburg, is the largest city in South Africa and one of the 50 largest urban areas in the world. It is the provincial capital and largest city of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. The population of the city of Johannesburg is estimated at 5.7million people makingit the most populous city in South Africa. The land area of the municipal city is 1,645km2 which is large in comparison with those of other major cities, resulting in a moderate population density of 2,364 per Km2. The growth rate of the city has been rapid and increasing over the years.

Lagos is the largest and most populous city not only in Nigeria but all of Africa. Lagos is a major financial Centre in Africa with the fourth-highest GDP in Africa and houses one of the largest and busiest seaports on the continent. Lagos has enjoyed tremendous growth, reaching 25 million from just 1.4 million in 1970. The city now generates 25% of Nigeria's total gross domestic product, and it has many millionaires. It is also the 8th fastest growing city in Africa with its population showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Both economically and demographically, Casablanca is not only the heart of Morocco, but it’s also the largest city in the Maghreb region. Given its position as Morocco’s center of commerce, Casablanca is well positioned to manage its growth well into the future. Casablanca is Morocco's chief port and one of the largest financial centers in Africa. It is considered the economic and business center of Morocco, although the national political capital is Rabat.The current population of Casablanca is 3,752,000, a 0.97% increase from 2019. The population of Casablanca in 2019 was 3,716,000, a 0.87% increase from 2018 making Casablanca one of the fastest growing cities in Africa.
