NOTE: The ‘year’ at the top of the chart should read ‘1966’, not ‘1970’. Thank you!

This is a data visualisation showing the All-Time Top 10 NFL (American Football) Teams between 1966 and 2019 based on each team's winning percentages (PCT) over that period (regular season PLUS playoffs). Which team sits at the top of the ultimate standings after more than 50 years of gridiron?

At the end of the video we've also included the total number of Vince Lombardi Trophies (Super Bowl Titles, NFL Championships) won by each team since 1966.

Winning percentages for each team were recorded starting from the 1966 season (concluding with the very first AFL-NFL Super Bowl I Championship in 1967) up to and including the 2019 season (concluding with Super Bowl LIV). This period from the 1966 up until the present day is what we've defined as the 'modern 'era.

A few things to note:

(a) For those teams that did not enter the NFL until 1967 or later we calculated their winning percentages based on their performance in the American Football League (AFL).

(b) For playoff matches losses did not deduct from a team's winning percentage - this is so that teams were not unfairly penalised for making the playoffs.

(c) For the 1966-1971 NFL seasons we used the modern style of calculating winning percentages (whereby a tie counts as half a win and half a loss).

(d) The number you see to the right of each bar is an arbitrary figure calculated by cumulatively adding the winning percentages from each year (a maximum score of 1.0 each year, signifying a 100% win rate). Therefore by the end of the video each team has a score out of 54 (due to the 54 seasons played between 1966 and 2019).

(e) Although the names of some teams have changed since 1966 for the sake of consistency the current team names are used.
