GRETA ARRIVES ON DRY LAND
Well after a three-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean, Greta Thunberg has FINALLY arrived on dry land. She's on her way to Spain for the UN's big climate summit: COP25.
Apparently, Greta had quite the adventure! Back in November, a couple of Aussies offered Greta a spot on their sailing boat to get her to the climate conference and they say wild seas and huge storms were just some of the crazy things they had to deal with along the way! But after three weeks of sailing, they landed in Portugal. Greta says she's feeling energised and ready to fight for action on climate change.
The COP25 summit in Madrid is a 2-week international conference and so far there have been big discussions on the science behind climate change and what it's doing to the planet. A lot of countries have their own individual plans to fight climate change and hopefully, this meeting will see them all work together.
TOP SONGS OF THE DECADE
It's almost the end of the decade, so to celebrate, Spotify's released its worldwide streaming stats from the past 10 years! The most popular song? Shape of You. It's been streamed a whopping 2.3 billion times. Drake's song One Dance came second, but don't feel bad for him because he's the most streamed artist of the decade followed by Ed Sheeran and Post Malone. Ariana Grande's the most popular female artist while Aussie star Sia came in fourth.
E-SPORT BECOMES A MEDAL EVENT
The South East Asian games are on at the moment and for the first time e-sports is a medal event! It's been a demonstration event before but this is the first time it's been officially approved by the Olympic Committee. There are three different categories and two games in each category like Hearthstone and DOTA 2. May the best e-sporter win!
RECAPPING THE YEAR'S STRANGEST SPORTS
Now speaking of sport - it's been a big year of sporting moments. Let's start with the thumb wrestling. Paul Browse took home his 3rd world thumb wrestling championship in August so he really is the world thumb-er 1.
And speaking of elite athletes, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won his 12th hotdog eating contest. He chowed down a whopping 71 hot dogs in 10 minutes and it sounds like he's still hungry for more.
Alright let's speed things up. There was office chair racing and rugby in the snow. Wrestling in gravy and I don't even know. You had soccer in the mud and soccer in the wet. A man on a hovercraft and dogs at the net! Russia had a highline festival with some pretty specky views and there are lots of ropes to catch you if your foot goes askew. Last but not least there was a race where wives are carried. The winners were Chris and Tanisha but hang on they weren't even married!
A DROPPED CATCH
This was supposed to be a hit a sitter sent straight to the hands of Joe Denly but he dropped it! Yeah - the rest of the English cricket team felt the same way. Including bowler Joffra Archer who couldn't quite believe he dropped it.
ROGER FEDERER COIN
What's better than cold hard cash? Cold hard cash with your face on it! The Swiss Government's just unveiled a 20 franc silver coin with Roger Federer's image on it. While it's not the most accurate picture of Federer, it's a big hit in Switzerland. In fact, the Mint's website crashed after more than 2 and a half million people tried to get one!
SURFER KID BUMPS INTO A SHARK
7-year-old Chandler was really getting the hang of surfing when a fish jumped out and hit him and gave him a little scare. But watching the replay you can see it wasn't just any fish - it was a baby shark!
