I shudder to think of how much money Ive spent on video games and accessories over the years.
One rule Ive had since I got my first system (an NES when I was 4 years old) is that when proprietary technology is involved I ALWAYS buy first-party, even though youre paying a premium.
You and your friend could buy seemingly-identical third-party accessories, but his could be great and yours could be utter garbage.
The range of quality of third-party products is so broad that every time you get one its a complete crapshoot - maybe you luck out and it works fine, maybe it doesnt. And if it doesnt, good luck getting your money back.
Unless I need something thats not made first-party (a turbo controller, for example) or something non-proprietary (a standard HDMI cable), I will always buy first-party.
Thats why I got these. Yeah, theyre a bit pricey, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. It would be nice if the Gamecube component cables were compatible with the Wii (theyre not), or if they were bundled with the system (like the 360).
Better yet, include an HDMI option with the system. But if you want 480p from the Wii get these, the official Nintendo product - otherwise, you may be sorry later.
If youve been playing console games for any length of time, youre used to overpriced accessories, and the Wii is no exception. Branded SD cards, component cables with a proprietary adapter, $20 for a nunchuck, etc.
If youre willing to pay the extra for first-party assurance, this cable is for you.
