The idea of superheroes coming to save the world seems very fitting during a time in which we could really use their help. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman...I would love to see the Justice League come and be part of our regular lives. And I wouldn’t mind if Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, and all of the Avengers joined too. But those types of heroes only exist in comic strips and movies. However, there are ordinary people out there who have stepped out of their comfort zone to do extraordinary things that have changed people’s lives. A woman named Beth Lederach was out for a walk, minding her own business, when she came across something really scary - it was a burning house. She immediately pulled out her phone and was able to record one of the most inspiring acts I’ve ever seen in my life. At first, it doesn’t seem like the fire is that big, and you can see that a lot of people are outside, and they look safe. But things started to escalate as soon as the fire started to grow and someone started to yell and asked for help for a man that was stuck inside the house. Someone was trying to put out the fire with a hose, but the water wasn’t enough to calm things down. Suddenly, a man showed up out of nowhere and walked inside the house. A few moments later, this man walked out with the victim in his arms. Both men were intact and the man’s family and friends were thankful for the person who saved his life. It took a while for the victim to catch up his breath, but it wasn’t long before the firefighters came over to finish the job and help the man out. I’m sure the story would have been different if it wasn’t for this kind helping hand who rescued the man from the threatening fire.

You can be a hero at any age. But honestly, when you do heroic things at 83-years-old, you pretty much become a legend and an inspiration to those around you. That’s exactly what happened to the man in the next story. It was an ordinary day at a sports betting company in Ireland, when out of the sudden, three armed robbers walked in. From the video we can see that they walked in with a very threatening attitude ready to take whatever they wanted, and it didn’t seem like they were gonna take a “no” for an answer. However, they were not aware that among the few people in the bar, there was this man named Denis O’Connor, who was not gonna let them get away with their crime. Without a second thought, he started fighting one of the robbers. Soon enough, another guy started doing the same and a few seconds later, the robbers had to leave. Dennis even walked to the door to make sure that the bad guys were gone for real. I hope someday I can be as brave as Dennis was.

Sometimes things escalate so quickly that people don’t even have the chance to do justice just like Dennis did in the previous video. But that doesn’t mean people can’t step up and do something. The next video comes from CCTV footage that was caught during a scary moment in New Mexico. As soon as two men realized that there was a shooting going on near them, they made a shield around children and women to protect them. Things could have turned badly for them, but they decided to risk their lives and protect those around them. In moments of panic, it is hard to act with a clear mind, so all you can do is act by instinct. It is in these moments that we get to see what we’re eager to sacrifice. It seems like these guys’ instinct is to protect, even if they’re in the middle of something that could put their lives in danger.
