Coronavirus outbreak: Trump offers "best wishes" to Boris Johnson, denies issues with testing | FULL
Description
U.S. President Donald Trump began the daily briefing of the U.S. Coronavirus Task Force on Monday by offering his "best wishes" to U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who it was announced earlier in the day had been admitted into intensive care after being infected with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Trump said it was shocking to learn that Johnson had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), calling it a “very scary deal” for the prime minister.
The president also sparred with journalists over an inspector general report that found U.S. hospitals were short on the medical supplies they need to fight the novel coronavirus.
The president denied the report was accurate and demanded to know where the inspector general came from, asking “what’s his name?”
The office of the Inspector General is currently led by Christi Grimm, the principal deputy inspector general.
The United States currently has 356, 942 cases of the novel coronavirus, with 10, 524 COVID-19-related deaths according to research compiled by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.
New York state is currently the epicenter of the outbreak with 3,048 deaths to date.
