Farmhouse Console Table | Part I - Table Top
Description
First video in a multipart series on building a farmhouse console table.
In this episode I build the top of the table including rough sawing, dimensioning, and laminating.
Primary lessons learned:
1. Taking off 1/2” with a planer is a lot. Originally I was planning to take 2x6’s (1.5” x 5.5” in reality) down to 1x5’s. That 1/2” took a long time and was more work than I anticipated. I’ll be adjusting the other shelves to accept 1.25” shelves.
2. Using a jointing sled with painters tape works but I would recommend using a more rigid jointing sled
3. If your lumber is wet *at all* dimensioning it doesn’t do any good because it’ll just warp when you’re done. I dimensioned one of the 2x6’s that was still a little wet and by the following morning it was twisted again.
4. When planing the short edge of your lumber, taping can be a good way to dimension multiple boards at once.
If you have any questions about this episode, I’d love to answer them. Just leave them in the comments section and I’ll make sure to get to you.
Thanks as always, I’m looking forward to doing this project with you.
