Description

The 11th week in Indian Super League (ISL) began with yet another loss for this season’s minnows Hyderabad FC. With former coach Phil Brown sacked, assistant coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo led the team from sidelines with Albert Roca watching from the stands.

The game began with a bang for the hosts as Marcelinho scored the fastest goal in the ISL this season in the very first minute. However, debutant Dimple Bhagat’s sending off put Hyderabad in pressure early in the game. Taking advantage of their situation, Odisha FC’s Aridane Santana netted a perfect brace to lead his side to their fourth consecutive win.

On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC too sealed their second consecutive win over NorthEast United at home. An outrageous long range strike from Rafael Crivellaro put the Marina Machans ahead in the 57th minute. Before the Highlanders could recover from the shock of that goal, Nerijus Valskis scored another in a matter of minutes to put the game to bed.

After a loss at Kerala Blasters last week, ATK bounced back to victory against a strong opposition in FC Goa. Regular goal scorer Roy Krishna turned provider on the night assisting both Pritam Kotal and Jayesh Rane for their respective goals. The win takes the Kolkata outfit back to top with the Gaurs in second place, inferior on goal difference.

Meanwhile at the Mumbai Football Arena, hosts Mumbai City FC delivered an upset to the defending champions of ISL. Bengaluru FC stood the chance to stay at the top but strikes in either half from Modou Sougou and Amine Chermiti sealed a win for the Islanders. The win also keeps intact the Islanders hopes of qualifying for the playoffs once again this season.

This season simply refuses to produce thrilling games! Back at the Furnace, Jamshedpur FC marked their first victory after four games with the return of talismanic forward Sergio Castel. Midfielder Noe Acosta had cancelled out Raphael Messi Bouli’s opener for the Blasters. However, Bartholomew Ogbeche put Eelco Schattorie and Co again in the lead, despite going down to ten-men following Abdul Hakku’s sending off.

What followed was simply a series of misfortunes for the visitors. Super sub Castel scored from the spot minutes after coming on as the Men of Steel refused to give up. In the 86th minute, Ogbeche failed to clear the ball in front of the box and to his horror, the ball ended up inside his own net. It was clearly a hands-on-head moment for the Nigerian.

The week in ISL was a pleasure to the yes of the spectators with loads of goals coming in. Check out the video as Khel Now picks the top 10 best strikes!
