Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Beirut on Sunday to apply pressure to speed up the formation of a unity government. Demonstrators could be seen chanting, holding banners, and waving Lebanese flags, as they marched through the country's capital city, before reaching Martyrs' Square.
"We continue to go down to the squares in order to emphasise our demands and the ones that have never materialised," said Mohamad Hamdan, a protester.
"The first demand that was achieved was the overthrow of the government and it is resignation. And now the second demand is the formation of a government and the start of parliamentary consultations binding by the President of the Republic in order to form a clean and national government from outside the political class and from outside the former prime minister and the current president", he added.
Protests have been taking place across Lebanon for several weeks, as demonstrators call for the overhaul of the political system. The protests forced Prime Minister Saad Hariri to resign.
