Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, and Don “Wink’’ Martindale, the Ravens’ defensive coordinator, are persons of strong interest the Giants want to investigate. At this point, it is likely Kris Richard, the Cowboys’ defensive passing game coordinator, and Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge will have to wow Giants co-owner John Mara and general manager Dave Gettleman in order to vault anywhere near the top of the group.  Josh McDaniels, the Patriots’ offensive coordinator, is in the mix, but not believed to be a high priority right now. McDaniels cannot be interviewed until next week, at the earliest, with the Patriots preparing for Saturday night’s AFC wild-card playoff game against the Titans. The Giants met with McDaniels two years ago in their search that concluded with the hiring of Pat Shurmur, who was fired Monday, two years into his five-year contract. Thus, the Giants have plenty of information on McDaniels and, if they interview him, will need to hear why he bailed on the Colts two years ago when a deal was in place.  Richard is scheduled to speak with the Giants on Thursday, McCarthy interviews on Friday and Bieniemy and Martindale on Saturday. Bieniemy is also expected to meet with the Panthers on Thursday. If the Cowboys pull the plug on Jason Garrett, they are expected to have interest in Rhule, who is quite popular in Waco, Texas.  The top contenders are going to have to answer certain pointed questions from Mara and Gettleman.  There are hurdles in front of a Rhule hiring, starting with a buyout from Baylor that is believed to be in excess of $10 million. The Giants were not happy with the coaching staff Shurmur put together, and Rhule, with so little NFL experience, will be grilled on the makeup of his staff, especially his thoughts on his offensive coordinator, given whoever runs the show in 2020 for the Giants inherits the continued development of quarterback Daniel Jones.  Rhule played linebacker for Joe Paterno at Penn State, but his coaching background is varied, with work on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. His one year in the NFL, with the Giants in 2012, was as an offensive line assistant. see also Matt Rhule is perfect coach to end Giants' humiliation The Giants desperately need to find their Mike Tomlin.
