Baylor Football has lost Matt Rhule as head coach, as he’s jumped to the Carolina Panthers and the NFL, meaning the Bears are now searching for the next Baylor head coach. So who are the top candidates to replace Matt Rhule has Baylor head coach? We’ve got the top Baylor targets and some realistic options.

There are some internal options that Baylor could hire, like DC Phil Snow or Co-OC Jeff Nixon, but there’s another coach who makes even more sense: Associate HC Joey McGuire. The players want him and he could be the perfect internal move.

Billy Napier turned down the Mississippi State job and got an extension at Louisiana. But could he jump to Baylor? He’s reportedly a candidate.

There are also some sitting head coaches that make sense. Tulane’s Willie Fritz has done a great job building that program, as has Sonny Dykes at SMU and Luke Fickell at Cincinnati.

There are coaches with Texas ties too, including Arkansas State HC Blake Anderson, who played at Baylor. Fritz and Dykes, of course, also have Texas connections.

Rhule was an inspired hire by Baylor Football. The program was on the verge of collapsing after the Briles Era and Rhule turned them around fast. From 1-11 in Year 1 to 11-3, losing only in the Sugar Bowl and to Oklahoma. He will be missed by Baylor, but the program is better because of him.
