Philippines orders top broadcaster ABS-CBN to cease operations immediately

ABS-CBN has been ordered to cease operations immediately. It is the Philippines' largest entertainment and media company in terms of revenue, income, assets and number of employees. Authorities said its license had expired. In a senate hearing in February 2019, the CEO of ABS-CBN had apologised to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who said that some of his campaign ads were not aired during 2016 elections. The broadcaster said if it closes, millions will lose their source of critical and timely information, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
