Prime Time With Ravish, May 01, 2020 | Was Government Late In Arranging Transportation For Migrants?
Description
Ravish Kumar asks whether the government's decision to use India's vast railway network to return stranded migrant workers to their hometowns was taken too late. Several states including Uttar Pradesh had arranged for buses to bring students and migrant workers who could not return back due to the lockdown. Many travelled by foot or by bicycles hundreds of kilometers due to the shutdown of public transport. Nearly five weeks after a sudden nationwide lockdown left lakhs of people stranded, in many cases without food, shelter or income, the centre on Friday said it will run special trains to take migrant labourers, students, pilgrims or tourists back home amid the COVID-19 crisis.
