Singapore expresses disappointment over Washington Post article on 'fake news' law
Description
Singapore said it is disappointed that the Washington Post has refused to publish its response to an article about its "fake news" law, or Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA). The Washington Post article on Dec 2 alleged that Singapore's use of POFMA amounted to censorship. In a letter to the editor of the Washington Post, Singapore's Ambassador to the United States Ashok Kumar pointed out that censorship entails banning offending material, but Singapore has allowed the false online posts to remain intact and fully accessible.
