Africa is the second largest continent after Asia made up of 55 sovereign countries, however not all the countries on the continent are the same in size be it surface area or population. Over the years we have seen countries either reduced or increase in size either through secession or unification. Though the largest countries in the world might not be in Africa, Africa however is home to some of the largest countries in the world.

Currently, Russia hold the title for the largest country in the world with a surface area of about 17 million km2 followed by Canada and the United States of America. So without any further ado, Here are the Top 10 largest countries in Africa.
10. Ethiopia – Sueface Area – 1.104.300 km2
Coming in at the 10th Position is the beautiful East African country of Ethiopia. Official known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ethiopian is the most populous landlocked country in the world and the second most populous nation on the Horn of Africa. It shares borders with Eritrea to the north, Djibouti , Somalia t, Kenya , South Sudan and Sudan to the northwest. Its capital and largest city is Addis Ababa where the African Union Headquarters is located. With a population of about 110 million people, it is the second most populous country in Africa after Nigeria. The country whose official language is Amharic has a surface area of 1.104.300 km2 making it the 10th largest country in Africa. Though Ethiopia is a wealthy country when it comes to GDP, its citizens are some of the poorest people on the continent mainly due to over population.
9. South Africa – Surface Area - 1.221.037km2
South Africa, officially refered to as the Republic of South Africa , is the southernmost country in Africa. South Africa is a melting pot of various tribal and European settlers’ cultures. Its location at the southern tip of the continent made it an easy landing point for travellers from Europe in the past, which resulted in the eclectic cultural mix found today.With over 58 million people, it is the world's 24th-most populous nation and covers an area of 1,221,037 square kilometres. South Africa has three designated capital cities: executive Pretoria, judicial Bloemfontein and legislative Cape Town. The largest city is Johannesburg. About 80% of South Africans are of Bantu ancestry divided among a variety of ethnic groups speaking different African languages. The country is not only the most beautiful in Africa, it holds the most wealth on the continent.

Mali, officially the Republic of Mali is alandlocked country in West Africa. Mali is the eighth-largest country in Africa, with an area of just over 1,240,192 square kilometres. The population of Mali is 20 million with 67% of its population was estimated to be under the age of 25 in 2017. Its capital and largest city is Bamako. The sovereign state of Mali consists of eight regions and its borders on the north reach deep into the middle of the Sahara Desert, while the country's southern part, where the majority of inhabitants live, features the Niger and Senegal rivers. The country's economy centres on agriculture and mining.
7.Angola – Surface Area - 1,246,700km2
Angola is a country in Southern part of Africa bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its capita and largest city is Luanda which also happens to be one of the most beautiful and expensive city in Africa. As of 2020 Angola has a population about 31.1 miilion people spread across its 1.24.700km2 of land. Angola currently has a GDP of about 124 billion dollars which is amongst the highest in Africa. 6. NIGER – Surface Area - 1,267,000km2
The Republic of the Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa. The beautiful Niger River is actually the namesake of the country. Its waters run much clearer than those of the Nile River as the result of lower silt content.
