Penelope Possum
(If an animal visits my yard often enough to be identifiable, they get a name).
Penelope is stocking up for winter after an early snow. She’s on the subsidized meal plan and doesn’t think her buffet should be interrupted by the release of canines from my house. We’ve had some discussions about it. This is her stating her opinion that the dogs can wait until she’s done. She’s a young opossum. You can tell because her ear tips (and tail, not pictured) are not curled from the effects of frostbite. In suburban Chicago, we are at the northern edge of the Virginia Opossums range.
