Representatives of S. Korea’s ruling party, gov’t and top office discussing COVID-19 countermeasures
Description
당정청 "코로나19, 준 전시상황…당정청 밀착 협력 필요"
Voicing the need for additional measures,... representatives of the ruling party, government and presidential office stressed that the current coronavirus outbreak here in South Korea is at the same level as a war... and vowed to work together to counter the fallout from the coronavirus.
Here's the former prime minister Lee Nak-yon, now head of the ruling party's COVID-19 response panel.
"The government-drawn supplementary budget does not seem enough to ease the critical situation. I call on the ruling party to come up with special measures to cope with financial difficulties for businesses."
Shortly after the meeting, the participants hinted that the 10-billion U.S. dollar supplementary budget bill, already submitted for parliamentary review, may see an increase to cover a wider range of businesses affected by the outbreak.
The head of the ruling party's COVID-19 team added that the additional measures and financial aid will likely cover small business owners as well as transportation flights, general aviation, and the education sector.
The government is likely to roll out the extra measures by next week.
