When we’re bent and burnt and motivation and elation all but seem to have been robbed from our lives, often, what we really, desperately need is * more sleep * ☽
To make sleep a sacred cornerstone of our well-being ~ of just generally being well and living in joy and creativity and courage ~ is something I didn’t fully consider until recent years. I once applauded my ability to pull all-nighters working on projects or going out with loved ones. I once thought that I needed to wear sleep deprivation as a badge of power or validity…because it made me hard working, or more productive, or something. But I now understand how basically and absolutely vital nightly (or daily) uninterrupted sleep is for a healthy experience of living. This shift in perspective has led me from wanting to be hard working, to needing to be smart working. And to me, smart working means greeting each new sunrise in strength and joy because I gifted my body the space to re-balance under the silence of the stars.
It’s wild how radical this form of * free * self-care has become in our fast-paced society which commends self-sacrifice in the name of productivity. Dare to understand that your “productivity” depends upon your ability to continuously swing into balance, not out of balance. Live in balance to live well.
